Natural Landscapes Where We Live And Work

Landscapes around our neighborhoods, schools, workplaces, churches and shopping centers are natural assets that can help us live and work better. We can make strategic investments in native landscapes with plants that offer both improved aesthetic values and ecological functions.

Towns and cities are full of invasive shrubs and trees, along with the sights and sounds of gas-powered lawn equipment. Invasive species have spread to surrounding natural areas and in the last decade many have been prohibited for sale across the Northeast.

We can improve our landscapes with native gardens and thoughtful maintenance changes. Existing garden spaces can be transitioned with locally-adapted native perennial flowers, shrubs and trees. Savings are generated over time by reducing low-value material and labor inputs like mulch, high-frequency mowing and routine leaf blower use.

Gardens And Planting

We have a passion for planting healthy trees, shrubs and flowers that grow well into the future.

We can provide small native gardens that can have a big impact and look great, as well as provide solutions that represent long-term investments.

We can learn about the site's existing landscape and have a conversation to explore your interests and vision.

We can help you add to existing gardens and expand gardens into other spaces. We can also provide ongoing garden and landscape maintenance.

At our home, we have our nursery, fruit trees, vegetable garden and privacy hedges of native shrubs, trees, flowers.

Our native hedgerow template provides opportunities for home and property owners to create privacy, shade, bird habitat, and water protection.

Maples, Sycamores, Birches, Basswoods and other shade trees anchor new paths lined with shrubs of Blueberries, Elderberries, Serviceberries, Dogwoods, Winterberries and Willows.

Sunny meadows of wildflowers have something blooming throughout the growing season, from Aquilegia in the spring to Joe Pyes in the summer and Asters in the fall. Read more about our PLANTS.

Invasive Species Removal

We can control and remove invasive species including Mugwort, Swallow Wort, Bradford Pear, Buckthorn, Honeysuckle and Burning Bush.

Mostly, our strategy is to run out the clock: mowing and pruning off the invasive plant so it cannot photosynthesize or go to seed.

To learn more, we are following ecological restoration projects and invasive management efforts by groups like the Western New York PRISM and the Pittsford Village Arboretum.

Lawn Mowing And Yard Maintenance

Home lawns and grass pathways are great spaces to play and enjoy. They can connect us with our gardens and often share grounds with residential woodlands.

We are happy to offer regular lawn-mowing services. We'll do it with gas-powered riding and push mowers or an electric mower if the yard is small enough. We'll never use gas-powered leaf blowers.

We can also offer mowing intervals of 10-14 days based on weather. Less frequent mowing can help lawns withstand drought, heavy rain and foot traffic. Grass that is a little long can be bagged and raked, and grass clippings can be used as mulch in gardens. If you have special events, we'll mow and clean up ahead of time.
